3/4 cup shortening

1 cup raw sugar (can use refined)

1/4 cup light molasses

1 egg, beaten

2 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)

2 tsp. baking soda

1/4 tsp. sea salt

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. ground cloves

1 tsp. powdered ginger

(1/4-1/3 cup sugar for rolling balls into)


Cream shortening and sugar together; add molasses and egg. Beat well.  Blend dry ingredients together and add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Roll into small balls. Roll into sugar. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees for approximately 15 minutes or until light brown.  Makes 4 dozen
