Method
Bring the water and salt to a boil, stir in the cornmeal, add the nut meats, and cook while stirring for 10 minutes.
Remove from the fire and add the well-beaten egg and melted shortening.
Turn into a greased tin and cool.
When cold, slice and fry in hot shortening until crisp.
Serve with honey or maple syrup.

Fried Cornmeal Nut Cakes
2 cupfuls yellow cornmeal 1 teaspoonful salt
2 tablespoonfuls melted Crisco 1 egg
3 cupfuls boiling water )^ cupful chopped nut meats
