Method
Cream the butter or lard and sugar together, then stir in the molasses, ginger, cinnamon, and cloves.
Dissolve the baking soda in a cup of boiling water and mix into the batter.
Stir in the flour.
Add the 2 well-beaten eggs last, mixing just before baking.
Bake in a greased pan at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until done.

Soft Ginger Bread
One-half cup butter or lard, ^ cup sugar, 1 cup molasses,
1 teaspoon of ginger, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon cloves,
1 teaspoon soda in a cup of boiling water, 2^^ cups flour. Add
2 eggs well beaten last before baking. A Friend.
